TAKING UP SPACE

Throughout history, marginalized and underrepresented groups have used fashion to communicate identity and shared culture, and to defy the white cis-gendered norms that dominate society and dictate beauty and fashion standards. Many political and social movements have used fashion and dress to unite and mobilize their supporters, resulting in group aesthetics that are encoded with specific values. Through this process, these looks become emblematic of the movements themselves.
